Old Jack's Cottage
Self-catering Yorkshire holiday cottage with amazing views
..
The cottage was exactly as described and in a lovely location with amazing views. It was a nice cosy place to curl up after a long day of walking.
Bumped into Jackie walking her dog one morning and she was more than happy to pass on some local knowledge.
Highly reccomend
Everyone was really friendly when your walking around- the local bars and pubs have amazing food .
Open fire in the cottage makes it after a loverly day to settle in the evening and watch the sea views from the window.
Will book again!
Cannot wait to get back and hopefully see you soon John & Emma &Leia
Taking advantage of the open fire at night was definitely a good choice and made the stay more atmospheric to the surroundings in this old coastal town.
Staithes is small and beautiful, lovely to walk around with very steep hill climbs or a bracing walk on the Cowbar where you can look out to the North Sea and see Dogger Bank. Or on the beach on the other side of the inlet and sit and watch the moon over the water from the benches then head into the Cod & Lobster for a warming bevvy or hearty Cod and Chips!
Betsy and Bo’s sell lovely food and treats to take back to devour by the fire in the evening before or after a walk listening to the water in the beck or the roar of the sea.
Old Jacks is delightfully higgledy piggledy in nature, lots of things are on a slope and sometimes different ones so you almost can feel like being in a boat bobbing in the beck at times.
We hope to return to lovely Staithes one day.
Parking is not as convenient as we thought since the cottages are on a slope and could definitely be a little challenging if there are multiple luggage pieces.
Staithes has some very good eating places & also a regular bus service to Whitby
Thank you Jackie, we had a lovely relaxing week away, with numerous, quite hilly walks.
Excellent & highly recommend
Fantastic and easy to use heating system and information regarding the open fire made the stay very relaxing.
Wonderful views from bedroom and outside the front door with its own bench to appreciate the surrounding area.
The information book in the house as plenty of area of interest and walks, the local museum is well worth a visit and so are all the shops and the local pub is busy but this is to be expected when the food and hospitality is excellent.
Deco suits the ambiance of the house and is well worth another visit.
Fantastic stay and thank you very much.
The bed was so comfortable and we had everything we needed for cooking!
If you're looking for ultra modern this isn't the place but if it's a bit of character, stunning views and a homely place this is the one!
Everything was so easy and Mandy really helped with getting us coal and logs, it felt like nothing was too much trouble.
We absolutely loved it and can't wait to come back!
Thanks again for all your help.
Great location on the hill going down to the harbour and the parking permit is a bonus.
Loved our stay, great communication from Jackie, couldn't have been better.
Loved the cottage, perfect for two.
My daughters were beside themselves with excitement at staying there and it was the perfect location for exploring lovely Staithes. We went out for pre-breakfast walks, everyone was so friendly and it was just a lovely couple of days.
And we well and truly put the automatic handbrake to the test - glad for the option to park down on the Staithe!

Thank you for having us
If you enjoy staying somewhere totally (Website hidden by Airbnb) open fire of an evening... stunning views...coastal paths..great seafood and friendly locals you can't go wrong staying here!
It was just like stepping back in time... forget the car..take lots of amazing photos and make friends and family back home jealous.
Jackie the owner was staying
nearby...her enthusiasm to make our weekend break as enjoyable as possible was gratefully received. xx
The location overlooking the little river into the harbour is perfect, especially as you can park your car right outside (unlike most of the properties across the bridge) and Staithes itself is such a friendly and beautiful village.
Can't wait to revisit Staithes in the future and wouldn't hesitate to stay in Jackie's cottage again!
The little cottage was perfect for our 4 night break and we wished we were staying longer. The parking space meant we could leave our bikes in the car.
The village has lovely pubs, cafes a butcher and a deli while still being small and not too busy (out of the school holidays anyway)
We had a lovely walk on the cliff path to Runswick Bay for a swim and there’s fabulous cycling on the Moors nearby
Staithes was charming with a couple of cafes and two pubs that do food. Bring some milk as we couldn’t find anywhere to buy milk down in the village. Also note no tea and coffee provided at the cottage. You can catch a bus from the top road towards Whitby and walk the coastal path 7 miles from Sandsend back to Staithes .
Communication went fine with hosts . Highly recommend .
